One more thing that happens when we start to realize the benefits of our new habits is that we start to analyze why we didn’t do it in the past and why did we give up in the middle in the past. This creates a struggle in the mind which pushes us to believe that we are most probably going to give up this time as well. We get judgmental about our wrong decisions in the past. We could self-sabotage our current possibility. We need to forgive ourselves for our past mistakes and use them as the reasons to prove our self-worth and prove our new found commitment. We need to stop dwelling on the things that we failed in the past, we need to stop our past experiences defining our preset possibilities. You need to believe that you are a changed person now, you learnt from your mistakes and you are ready to use them to improve yourself now.
One very important fact we need to keep in mind is that we are who we are today because of numerous mistakes and mess ups we made in our past life. We are humans and that is how we transform and grow.
It is fine to fail in some things and lacking certain skills. Now you have the possibility of developing in those areas. The pleasure and fun of learning, improving and becoming an expert is unbelievable. This is the kind of attitude that keeps us going. Taking it as a challenge and trying to gain mastery in a new task is very beneficial mentally and physically. This keeps our brain healthy and develops new neural patterns. Improves neuroplasticity.
When you choose to struggle and reach mastery in certain area, now you have the discipline and confidence to embark on other possibilities and interests of yours. Now you are more open minded and mature than before to handle the next mission.
You don’t get anything in life just by sitting on couch watching mindless programs on TV or lying on the bed or go for a shopping when you feel bored. Right kind of effort and struggle is what keep you hopeful and motivated to do better things in life.
Like for example how to endure a short phase of inactivity in our daily lives. We immediately go for our phones to check our for notifications. Even having some time to sit idle and doing noting for a minute is becoming a discomfort these days. We want to be always distracted to get a false sense of busyness. I think that endurance and facing something, building up that ability to endure things is a very important mechanism that you could apply to everyday life.
