Spirituality emphasizes a personal, internal, and non-egoistic journey toward meaning, connection, and transcendence . Following religion beliefs , conversely, relies on external, rigid, and unquestioning adherence to a prescribed set of beliefs, rules, and rituals . We can choose any path we want, but we need to be aware if it is working or not.
Attaining Spirituality in the name of God:
• Internal Authority: The ultimate authority rests with the individual’s direct experience, intuition, and personal insights into the nature of the sacred or ultimate reality.
• Emphasis on Experience: The focus is on experiencing a connection with the divine, self, others, or the universe, often through practices like meditation, contemplation, or being in nature. This is a continuous search of higher self.
• Inclusive: It is an individual journey that is often fluid, evolving, and open to integrating wisdom from various sources, traditions, or philosophies.
• Quest for Meaning: It’s driven by a desire for self-discovery, personal growth, and finding meaning in life, often encouraging deep self-honesty and awareness.
• Critical Engagement: It involves questioning, seeking, and investigating beliefs rather than merely accepting them based on tradition or command.
Following rituals/religious beliefs in the name of God:
• External Authority: Authority is solely based on fixed, established external sources, such as texts, gurus, certain practices.
• Emphasis on Belief/Obedience : The focus is on belief in a set of doctrines and strict obedience to rituals, and traditions as the only path to salvation or closeness to God.
• Fixed and Exclusive: The path is laid out and fixed, with little room for personal interpretation. Lack of critical thinking relevant to the current world.
• Quest for Security/Certainty: It is often motivated by a psychological need for certainty, security, and a clear group identity.
• Rejection of Critical Thought: It views questioning, doubt, or critical examination of the established teachings as a lack of faith or an act of disobedience, thus demanding blind acceptance.
