Gnosticism centers on the belief in salvation through knowledge (gnosis) of a secret, divine reality and a fundamental distinction between the material world—seen as flawed and evil, created by an inferior deity (Demiurge)—and a transcendent spiritual realm of a supreme God. Gnostics believe humans possess a divine spark trapped in the physical body, and salvation is achieved by awakening this spark through direct, mystical insight, which reveals the path to the true spiritual home.
