Your identity must be connected to who you are and not what you do or achieved. You identify must be attached to the things that cannot be measured and immaterial.
Meaning your sense of worth and self-respect must rely on your core values and who you are as a person like you are a person who values being a great parent or a spouse, you are a person who is trustworthy, you are a person who has high integrity, you are a person who is committed to ones decisions and promises, you are a person who shows up and never quits, you are a person who is resilient, you are a person who values selfless work and service, you are person who takes care of ones well-being and health to be strong and independent in long run, you are a person who value self-development and continuous learning, you are a person who value progress and growth for a fulfilling life, you are a person who wish to be an asset to others rather than being a liability, you are a who attach your value and worth with working on your skills and serve a purpose in this world.
On the other hand when you attach your importance and identity to material possessions like money, fame, reputation, recognition and rewards, power and control, likes and following on social media etc., then you keep fluctuating and cannot have a strong identity. As these are all incertain and subjective, their value and worth change with time and circumstances. You will have nowhere to go when the value of the material thing you possess diminishes or when someone else has more of money or name or fame or following or rewards or stuff than you. Your identity suffers and you suffer when you link your worth with things that only have material value in nature.
