One observation on who buys lottery tickets

Lottery tickets are generally bought by the people who are not financially sound and many people are poor enough to not have enough money to feed their family, but they buy lottery tickets in blind hope of winning. At the same time very rich people have enough money to buy the entire lot of lottery tickets and have higher chances of winning the lottery price, but we do not see any rich person buying lottery ticket. This says something about leaving one’s destiny to life instead of taking full control and responsibility to own one’s life. People who feel helpless, hopeless and submitted to the assaults of life give up and wait for something extraordinary to happen to them without putting in the real work.

Luck has a it’s role in life

Not all success stories and achievements may not be a result of extreme dedication, hard work and success. At the same time not all unsuccessful stories and failures are a result of laziness, indiscipline and procrastination. There is a role played by uncontrollable factors, unexpectable events in ones life. A person could be in the right place at the right time with the right people which leads to a great opportunity and different person in spite of best of the ambitions maybe in a wrong place in a wrong time with wrong people and may not succeed.

No ‘one’ thing is responsible for ‘everything’ else in life

It is almost impossible to find one thing that is responsible for everything else in life. But we link one bad event or a tragedy to everything that happens there after. We develop learned helplessness and believe to be a victim of circumstances which makes us a slave to our emotions. This mindset will makes things worse and does not help us to improve the situation. We derive energy out of our low energy states like enger, resentment, irritation, revolt, frustration, misery, sadness etc,. It becomes a positive feedback loop as we continue to bask in the misery we are in. The more we do something and think of something, the stronger the neural pathways become in our brain to trigger the same emotion and make it look worse.

The first thing we need to learn when a negative event happens to us is to not make the situation any worse. It is good to either stay put where you are or pull up your socks to get better.

We must remind ourselves that stuff that happened to us may not be our fault but correcting it and recovering is completely our responsibility. We should not allow the trauma to be the point due to which lots of others things happen in our life. We have the power to determine what happens after an event whether it is everything negative or positive aftermath.

The world is in your mind, you are what you think you are

You will see what you want to see in this world. You will become exactly that person that you think of yourself. You will not get what you don’t want in life. You will unconsciously do everything possible to remain far from what you don’t want. This is true for both healthy and unhealthy things in life. If you don’t want something and don’t value something, you will push it away from it. Be careful of what you practice daily and narratives that you say in your mind.

The world reveal itself based on your perception of the world. You view the world through your narrow view of understanding of the world. Be careful what you follow , what you watch, what you listen, what you read and who are your role models because they have a significant impact on you subconscious mind. What you watch, listen, read, impacts the way you think, feel, behave and choices you make.

Be aware of what your sole is made of. Sole is something that you own based on which the world reveals and responds to you.

Many people talk themselves into problems. They do activities that make them suffer but unfortunate thing is that the same people would not take responsibility for the consequences of their decisions. They put the complete blame on external factors and other people and complaint that everything happened because of everything else apart from themselves.

People who do not want to do the real work for their betterment would search for all the evidence to not to do the work and talk themselves out of taking good decisions. They soak themselves in self-pity and stay in comfort zone even though it is painful. They learn helplessness and become hopeless of the any better possibility in life. They choose to be victims of circumstances and slave to their emotions. They reject the fact everything improves only if we improve ourselves and put in the real work. This becomes a self-fulling prophecy and feedback loop in itself. When they continue with this attitude long enough, it becomes inseparable part of their psyche. They will not even be aware that they are indulging in self-destructive behaviour.

Self-esteem and humility

Having humility means identifying that you are ignorant in certain areas , accepting that you have weaknesses and you are vulnerable in many ways.

Humility is accepting that you don’t know a lot of things in this world. What you know is what you know already. It’s your ability to allow yourself to learn what you don’t know and rectify your existing intellect is what makes you feel better and improves self worth.

It is the ability to not create false narrative around them and living with them but you need to handle them properly so that you become little bit better.

Similarly self-esteem is not about having immense respect towards yourself for the strengths and for your achievements. Self esteem is the ability to accept that you are human and you would err and fail, you do have certain gaps and vulnerabilities in you, you do mistakes and learn from them , yet you have the strength to lead a worthy life .

Don’t give too much value to your feelings – they are fleeting

Many people just submit and casually react and behave and take decisions based on how they are feeling at that moment and become usually dependent on their emotions. They relay on the emotions and feelings and majority of the times and feel that life is getting difficult. Our feelings must not be given too much of importance and their usually dependent on a lot of external factors and also on our internal biological chemical imbalances.

If we want to take rational decisions instead of falling prey to various activities which makes us feel good at that moment and gives us instant gratification it, then our mind has to be stronger than our feeling.

Many people don’t know how to start and when to stop. Most people don’t even have the self awareness that starting anytime anywhere is completely in there hands. Many people are victims to their feelings and they rely too much upon the factors that are out of their control and believe that they are the victims of the external circumstances. They give power to outside factors rather than taking control our what they could control.

Performance science fails in real life situations

VO2 max is nothing but your bodies ability to use oxygen efficiently to produce energy for us to perform during various aerobic activities. Our mitochondria are the powerhouses in your cells. They need to be efficient enough to use the maximum oxygen efficiently and effectively give you the required energy to perform aerobic activities like running, cycling, swimming etc,.

A.V. Hill and Hartley Lupton first identified VO2max in 1923. In the 1950s and 1960s, Henry Taylor, Per-Olof Åstrand, and Bengt Saltin developed protocols and physiological indicators for measuring VO2max. However, it took a few decades for the process to become reliable enough to trust the data.

The equations developed to measure VO2 max gave a fair assessment of a person’s performance and aerobic caliber during non-competitive scenarios. However , these VO2 max formulae failed during the real competitive situations. This proves that there is no guarantee that the person having the highest VO2 max wins in the the competition because a lot of variables affect a person’s performance in a given moment like the strength of nerves, ability to remain calm in high stress moments, ability to focus when there are high stakes involved, emotional balance whether the crowd is cheering or geering.

This might work in a smaller settings and small groups but would not work in professional settings and in long run.

For example, an olympic diver or gymnast would win not because they are perfect but they are the best compared to others and they displayed the best that they could on that day.

Incentives runs economy and human behaviour

Economy is run through incentives. Economy is run through capitalising humans evolutionary behaviours, pitfalls of our brain and the blind sports that we have in our brain that we are not aware of.

Businesses, food industry, healthcare industry, pharmaceutical industry policing system, political parties, various systems established to regulate smooth functioning of the society and the economy runs by pushing you towards those behaviours that are not in your best interests but they are definitely good for recycling economy and money flow. Economic systems and businesses run by giving incentives to be not in your best behaviour. The more impulsive and short sighted decisions we make, the better it is for the businesses.

There is no money in permanent fixes and finding root cause of the problem that plague us. There is only money in showing us temporary solutions that gives us quick pleasure but pushes you towards endless loop of become being a repeated customer of any product.

All businesses market the products that pushes you towards behaviour that is not healthy for you in the long run but may give you instant relief or pleasure immediately.

Instead of saying that all the industries are conspiring against you, it is better to say that industries create conditions that drive you away from your good behaviour (like pricing high, difficult to procure, long wait time etc,.) and give incentives to make choices that are not really healthy for us .

The west maturity of the people are casual seekers of information and do not want to be in control of themselves. Many people do not want to take effort to research and become aware of reality. They don’t want to be self-critical and question the status quo. Most people want to be told what to be done, they want to be controlled and being lead by others, they want to be taken care of, and just be done with it.

So majority of the people who need good advice are not getting the good advice. Moreover those kind of people are selectively choosing those advises that confirm their pre-existing biases and beliefs.

Know how you feel when you get something

If you are going to someone explaining a problem or having a complaint then you must also be aware how would you feel when that is resolved and what’s the net for you. For example if your wife comes to you with some requirement and desire then she should also know how would she feel and take it when the desire is satisfied. If you are going to your boss with some requirement then you should also specify to him what are you going to give in return and how would it make you feel when your necessity is met.

Without this clarity and intention in mind all the requirements and desires will loose their value and excitement when they are achieved.

Schools teach what is familiar but not what is relevant now

Why are the concepts of health, money, mindset are not thought in the school whereas many concepts in the fields of physics chemistry mathematics or taught in the school where they have no practical utility in the real life for vast number of people.

Any educational system would not prefer to go into any area that is uncertain
Whenever you have a concept which can be distilled to a set of formulas and it can be taught to anyone and there is no controversy and ambiguity. Since they are objective and does not need people skills to teach or to evaluate, they can be scored. But the concepts like health, wealth, mind set cannot be taught because they are subjective and differs from person to person in numerous number of ways because every person is a product of their own culture, traditions and parenting.

Any establishment do not wish to disturb what is already working and they not dare to upset the apple cart.

The expectation effect

A group of people are called in to a study who are wary of gluten. They were given non gluten food. But since they believed that they had gluten based foods, they immediately got rashes, gut issues etc,. However, none of them ate gluten based foods. This is the power of subconscious brain and placebo/nocebo effect. This also tells us how our mind and body reacts according to what we expect to be true.
