People change when they want to change

I don’t care about reaching millions of people. I want to reach the right people. In my experience of life until now, I have realized and have been proven again and again by the various people and circumstances that you cannot change people for good.
You must not go around preaching people even though you are completely selfless in your intention,
you cannot improve the health and wellbeing of the people because you want them to have a better experience of life,
you cannot expect others to change because you are giving them all the information and ideas that could potentially transform their life,
You cannot change people because you want them to be happy and healthy.

People will only change if they want to, people will change only if they believe that the pain of staying where they are is more than the pain of change. Because changing is painful journey and you would only take up willful struggle only when the pain of the low quality life is terrible. Many people take some action only when they suffer immensely and something drastic happens to them. I don’t know why but that is the nature of the people.

With this I can definitely say and I personally believe that there is no need for me to labour the point when a person is open to change and who is willing to listen to me and who is willing to question their existing beliefs and patterns which are working against them and willing to work on them to improve life. At the same time, no amount of explanation would be enough and may fail to convince a person who is not prepared to change for good, who is adamant and rigid in their beliefs, who is passively having thoughts to nagate what I am explaining to them.

If you cannot do what you are supposed to do and if you can’t get better when things are tough and sketchy, then you cannot get better at all because maximum number of days in your life do not cooperate with you.

You can only improve and grow when you could stand by your decision and standards when things are acting against you.

If you are waiting for good days, perfect time, skys to be blue and sunny, when all people around you are acting sanely, when flowers are blooming and birds are chirping then you cannot start anything and stick to anything that you already started.

You need to train yourself to do stuff that is in your best interests when situations are not ideal. External conditions and even your internal states are never perfect and ideal to do anything that is painful and challenging. If you rely on external factors to be ideal and waiting for all stars to line up then you would never be able to be great in life. Even if you have achieve anything in life, it is highly likely that you would not be able to keep it for long.

Real professionals and champions, high achievers in any area have high standards and they stick to them no matter what. Standards are the differentiating factor between an average person and a champion. A champion could be anyone in the field of sports, games, in business, in politics, in healthcare provider, a lawyer, a social activist etc,. You call someone a champion if they are standing out in the crowd and outstanding in what they do. The rules and strategy to become a champ in sports or be a champion in life are same.

Don’t get numb to low quality of life

Majority of the people have become so numb and paralyzed by their low quality of life that they don’t even know that they have any health issue or in pain. Many people experience physical and mental health issues for so long that they became part of their body. Our body and mind adapts to the low quality of being so that they no longer can identify that they are not in good condition because the disorders are part of the body now.

We cannot make change if we believe that there is no need for change. If we don’t recognize that there is a problem, then we do not seek a solution. So instead of giving there optimum performance, being the best, achieving excellence, winning and contributing to the society, majority of the people lead a low quality of lifestyle. They go limping through their lives which would impact their personal and professional lives slowly but surely.

As days pass by , as days turn in weeks into months into years, one day you would witness a disaster which is a sum total of all the unhealthy choices and bad decisions that you made for long time. Remember that a big failure or a big success does not happen all of a sudden. Both failure and success are a result of a series of small insignificant actions and decisions made for a long time consciously or unconsciously.

Win the day to win your life

I would not wait for a vacation or a festival or an event or some occasion or a birthday to have a great day and feel excited. For me every single day of life is exciting. It is even more exciting because I work hard to overcome my physical and mental limitations first thing in the morning. Every day I give me satisfaction and happiness because I created a routine that lets me experience progress. I sense my progress by using my strengths to overcome my weaknesses.

I can’t wait to wake up in the morning because I get to test my physical and mental potential through rigorous physical exercise. Thereafter get to feel the endorphin rush and exercise induced growth factors (BDNF and hormones) for next 4 to 5 hours. This gives me a psychological effect which transforms my mindset to be more optimistic, energetic and affirmative. This is so addictive and worth striving for daily to gain control over the day and to run the day efficiently according to my agenda. This state of mind would insulate my mind from the impact of the external factors which are out of my control. This suffering and pain is necessary to push my neurochemicals and biology into a growth state which indirectly gives me an edge in handling my job and personal obligations.

daily I do things that challenge me and make be struggle. I choose voluntary discomfort and activities that make me toil so that i have an opportunity to overcome them and conquer them to give a genuine dose of kick and high to my reward centers of my brain. I do things that develop the power of self-control and temperance in me naturally. I start my day with a intense exercise and follow it up with nutritious foods and quality dietary supplements to enable my body to recover and fuel my brain. I ensure to walk at least 8000 steps apart from the workout that i do in the gym. I squeeze out some time to do deep breathing for 10 to 15 minutes daily. I ensure to go to bed by at a regular time at night.

Starting my day with a challenging workout and voluntarily pushing my body to become stronger, faster and agile would give me the boost of energy to handle rest of day with aplomb and patience. Fueling my body with right nutrition at regular intervals would give me that confidence on my body and mind to manage difficult situations as well as daily routine activities.

I do have my days that make me give up my daily rituals and practices. I do feel sad when I have to skip my workout or miss a healthy wholesome meal or had to sleep late. This could be due to some unexpected event or due to travel or due to a family function or some other reason. But these situations are bare minimum in an year and they become a tiny fraction in a lifetime. Even though I wish that my daily rituals are never interrupted, I can easily accept these days as I have been disciplined and consistent in training myself for rest of the days.

Since I consider my body as a temple and my mind as god who sits in the temple, it is my responsibility and duty to devote part of the day to fully nurture my body and mind to realise my full potential for that day. A day is a life in miniature. What we do daily matters more than what we do once in a week or month or a year. With this attitude I will be able to create a festival like atmosphere and vacation like happy mood daily in my life, at least part of the day if not the entire day.

I believe that we must not wait for a festival or weekend or a vacation to be lively and happy. Those kind of days may or may not give you the feeling that you are anticipating. I believe we must create our own happiness by making every day worth living for. We must have something to look forward to the next day.

If need to be different to get something different in life

If you choose a life of purpose,
If you choose a life of meaning,
If you choose a life of contribution and
If you choose a life where you would leave a legacy for others to get inspired and do better things in their lives for their own people and for themselves then, you got to be curious,
You got to be willing to take risk,
You go to paint your own life – so painting is always difficult when it is compared to taking a photocopy of what is told by the society.

So if you want a life of a meaning, dignity, fulfillment then you got to choose how you want to live your life and be conscious.
You have to be willing to take risks,
you have to be willing to take rejections from others,
feedback from others,
criticism from others,
you should be willing to be misunderstood.

If you don’t want to go through the struggle of becoming who you are meant to be and suffering of sculpting yourself then you would choose a safe and easy path. The path that is taken by majority of people, that is accepted by others, to meet the expectations of others instead of your own.

If you just do what majority of people do then you would get what majority of people get. Id you don’t know what to do in your life, your parents or peers or society will decide it for you. If you do not create a standard for yourself, you live by the standard of your closest people and place you live in. If you do not believe in yourself and stand up for yourself, you will fall for anything that comes across in life. Many times we make a ass out of ourselves by following the masses.

It is easier to dismiss and shame others instead of reaching to higher standards

Generally people would dismiss, criticize and demean others who are trying to improve their own lives by going on a self-development journey. In the the process of becoming better, you need to tolerate the discouraging words and attitude from people who dislike to change for their own good. People who like to be taken care of and who do not like to change their self-limiting beliefs would diss at the people who are making strides to raise their standards.

It could be because of self-serving bias. Some people get inherent satisfaction by degrading people who are doing better than them. By doing so it gives them an instant relief from their own demons and weakness. Instead of working on themselves, it is much easier to be dismissive of other’s hard work. Instead of being supportive and encouraging others (especially loved ones) when they are trying hard to get better, the other half would get in the way by saying things that would make them feel guilty.

Reasons for displaying this kind of attitude could be many. May be people feel threatened by unfamiliar behaviour of their loved ones even though it is positive and healthy, may be because it would remind themselves of their failures, it might remind themselves of the situations where they gave up on themselves, our close people may feel that they might lose you

Most importantly you must remember that it is very easy to discourage, demotivate, demoralize, drag somebody down then to work on oneself to reach higher standards.

You feel excitement during the journey of attaining something

Let’s take the example of an aeroplane. you don’t feel that excitement and unknown anxiety when the plane reaches an altitude. You will experience the real thrill during take off before reaching steady altitude.

Similarly you must realize that the the real excitement is in the process of becoming someone for achieving something in life. Who who become and who you transform into while reaching your goal is more important than the goal itself. The final award and rewards are just a token of gratitude for all the ups and downs you encountered during the journey.

Truth and Myths about Triglycerides, Cholesterol, Statin Drugs

Blaming cholesterol is like accusing firemen of fire accident. It is like accusing policemen wherever there is crime. Of course, they will be present when there is a bad incident. Consider cholesterol is like firemen or policemen. But we need to understand why is the cholesterol which is a healthy essential substance needed for by every cell in our body, would create a problem for us. When there is inflammation or eruption or minor fissures caused by other inflammatory substances like triglycerides, pollutants, toxins, and substances from junk foods, you will find cholesterol together with calcium forming plaque in the arteries and lot of other places. But instead of fixing the root cause of the issue, we attack the symptom by taking an easier route like lowering the cholesterol using statins drugs. There is nothing wrong in taking statins for a while if the cholesterol and triglyceride levels are very high. However, if the root cause is not mitigated, then you would be taking statins for life.

Functions of Cholesterol

  • Cholesterol is a waxy type of fat, or lipid, which moves throughout your body in your blood. Your body makes cholesterol, but you can also get it from foods especially from animal foods. Your liver makes all the cholesterol your body needs like 3000 mg/day.
  • “Cholesterol” is needed by each cell in our body.
  • Cholesterol is used to produce/repair cell membranes,
  • Precursor to hormones like testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, cortisone,
  • Required to produce vitamin D from sunlight
  • Needed Generate bile acids that help you to digest fat.
  • Cholesterol also helps in the formation of your memories and is vital for neurological function.

What is LDL and HDL

  • LDL is not cholesterol. Low density lipoprotein is a protein that shuttles cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • LDL is the carrier that transports cholesterol from the liver to the vessels and cells.
  • HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) transports the cholesterol from the arteries back to the liver.

Uses

  • Allows cell permeability – allowing electrolytes to travel in and out of the cell
  • Protects the cell against microbes
  • Needed to make bile
  • Needed to make fat soluble vitamins – A, D, E, K1, K2
  • Needed to make adrenal hormones like cortisol
  • Needed to have sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone
  • Your immune system needs cholesterol to function
  • Needed to combat the negative effects of bacterial toxins
  • Helps inhibit the damage from microbes
  • Acts as a band-aid to help in the healing of the endothelium layer

Here are some of the problems with low cholesterol:

  • Depression
  • Cellular damage
  • Low sexual hormones
  • Strokes
  • Mental issues
  • Short term memory loss in elderly
  • Susceptibility to infection
  • Increase risk for allergies and asthma

Triglycerides

  • Triglycerides are a type of fat (lipid) found in your blood. It is a combination of three fatty acids held together by a glycerol molecule.
  • When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn’t need to use right away into triglycerides. The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals.
  • If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, particularly from high-carbohydrate foods, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia)
  • Adipose tissue triglyceride represents the major energy store of the body. Fatty acids are mobilized from adipose tissue triglycerides by the action of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), which is activated by glucagon and adrenaline (epinephrine) and inhibited by insulin.

Triglyceride Uses

  • What is the main benefit of a triglyceride, like glucouse it is used for our energy needs.

Reasons for high triglycerides

  • Very high levels of triglycerides are associated with liver disease.
  • High triglycerides can cause inflammation in arteries and may contribute to hardening of the arteries or thickening of the artery walls (arteriosclerosis) — which increases the risk of stroke, heart attack and heart disease.
  • Extremely high triglycerides can also cause acute inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).
  • A first sign of metabolic syndrome is high insulin in blood and high triglyceride levels – For metabolic syndrome, that group includes abdominal obesity (visceral fat), high blood pressure, high blood sugar, low HDL cholesterol

Statin

Any of a group of drugs which act to reduce levels of cholesterol (which also reduces triglycerides) in the blood.

Few Types of statins

  • atorvastatin
  • fluvastatin
  • pravastatin
  • rosuvastatin
  • simvastatin

Researchers warn that unless a patient is at high risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, statins may cause more harm than good’. Many studies found statins decrease energy and fitness and increase fatigue and sleep problems. They also found that statins may increase the risk of muscle aches and pains, kidney and liver problems, bleeding in the brain, and type 2 diabetes.

We need to understand that most of these symptoms are our body’s way of giving us feedback that something is wrong in our body and the cause may be somewhere internal. Suppressing symptoms like inflammation or pain or discomfort or cholesterol is like switching off the fire alarm just because we are the alarm sound is irritating to us. When there is fire alarm, we need to put off fire and not switch off alarm bells and believe that it is peaceful now.

Modern medicines and drugs are well suited for treating Acute pain and diseases, trauma, and infections. There are very few drugs/medicines which treat the root cause of the disease in modern medicine. Especially in the case of chronic lifestyle diseases (disorders), majority of the allopathic drugs would modulate, block, or suppress various symptoms(that show up due some inherent disease or disorder) and rarely treat the main cause of the symptom.

May medical research and top-level medical associations clearly said there is no connection of having high cholesterol and heart diseases. In fact, many studies show that high cholesterol is associated with higher life experience and lower cholesterol has association with higher all-cause mortality. Same is with saturated fats.

So, when we are assessing our blood lipid profile, we need to understand it holistically and must not just look at LDL cholesterol and use statins if someone prescribes.

There are two types of LDL particles that should be taken into account when calculating heart disease risk:
  • LDL-A particles are larger, less dense, and lower your risk. They basically transport fats and nutrients and does not involve in repair work.
  • LDL-B particles are smaller, denser, and increase your risk. This is what is shown as VLDL in our lipid profile. They involve in repair work and even cause inflammation by causing friction in artery walls.

When you have low triglyceride levels but high LDL levels, generally speaking for majority of people it could indicate that they are leading a healthy lifestyle. That also means you are metabolically healthy, mostly your other blood parameters would be good, and you may also be doing reasonably well with your eating habits, exercise and sleeping routines.

If you have high triglycerides. Mostly you would be having low HDL and generally high VLDL and LDL as well. So this is dangerous. This combination means that you might be doing wrong in multiple areas like diet or exercise or insufficient sleep or stress or obese or per-diabetic or diabetic or even low in certain vitamins and minerals in your blood.

What is the best way to read lipid profile

  • Total cholesterol / HDL cholesterol ratio – Should be between 3 and 4 to ensure healthy cholesterol levels and a substantially reduced risk of heart disease. Total-to-HDL cholesterol ratio is the best predictor of cardiovascular disease risk on the basic blood lipid panel
  • Triglyceride / HDL ratio – Another better way of calculating cholesterol link to cardiovascular disease. Less than 2 is ideal. Anything above 2 is bad .

What could cause abnormal lipids (cholesterol or triglycerides?

  • Obesity
  • Poorly controlled diabetes.
  • An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).
  • Liver or Pancreas disease
  • Regularly eating more calories than you burn.
  • Smoking
  • Alcoholism
  • Sometimes high triglycerides are a side effect of taking certain medications including steroids
  • Poor lifestyle

How to lower High Triglycerides and improving HDL level – “Lifestyle Changes”

  • Get more physical activity and exercise daily– A balanced exercise program of Strength training/HIIT and cardio
  • Weight loss – To be precise target Fat-loss using right exercise regime and nutrition.
  • Sleep well (at least for 7 to 8 hours)
  • Reduce stress and anxiety using meditation or deep breathing Henriques
  • Choose healthy fats like Omega 3.
  • Add some protein rich foods. Eat foods with healthy fats.
  • High quality Vitamin/Mineral Supplements will be helpful
  • Eat more fibre – colourful vegetables and fruits
  • Eat at regular intervals and avoid snacking in between meals
  • Lower sugar, refined carbs, and refined oils
  • Stop smoking and drinking alcohol
