Life is Hard, Do your Best with What is in Your Control

Life is hard and it is hard for each and every human living on this planet Earth.
As someone said – poor people have poor problems and rich people have rich problems. But somehow we all think that our problems are bigger than others and others problems are better to suffer than our own suffering. Grass is greener on the other side of the fence mentality.

We need to acknowledge that some people go through terrible events in life which they are not responsible at all. They are just in the wrong place in the wrong time. There is evil in this world and unfortunately some people fall victim to these kind of circumstances. Some people have very traumatic events and experienced atrocities that are completely condemnable.

To top it social media makes it worse.

In this age of social media, we live in a world where there is constant bombardment of misinformation and disinformation, influencers selling their own agenda, making you feel like you are missing something in life, making you feel that you are a victim, making you feel unhappy with your own life, giving you a sense of uncertainty, making you compare irrationally, making you judgmental, say and do things that make us regret later.

What happens to you and the world being unfair to you is out of your control. But deriving a meaning out of it and working to improve the life is the only way to lead the life. Of course you have the right to feel like a victim as something bad happened unreasonably. Of course you can sit and wallow in the pain, misery, trauma for some time. But at some point you need to realise that the only way out is to strongly believe that it has happened for a reason and you need to muster up the courage to take complete responsibility to come out of your situation.

It could be a painful process. It could be a tedious and slow process. There could be challenges and unexpected breaks. There could be some days where you go off-track. You could be misunderstood and criticized. May be no one encourages up or supports you. May be no one recognises the effort you are putting in, you may most probably need to wait for long time to see positive results. But you must keep going with patience and consistency.

Transforming oneself and learning from an unfortunate event to become better is a tough and painful process for sure. But it is the only way and it is only you who could do it. Only you could decide what is best for you. Only you could take best care of you. And it is worth your effort and time to transform from a victim to a victor.

When life gives you only Lemons, make juice out of it. Do the best you can with what you have and where you are.

Passion is for You and Purpose is for Others

Passion is working to realize your dream and inner potential. We need to work on our talents and develop skill-set to pursue our passion. Passion is confined to you.

When you use your passion to serve others and when your passion is resolving others problems, then it becomes your purpose.

Work on something that you love and feel passionate about. Keep watering and nurturing your vision and mission until it is appreciated and recognized by people. Then help others using your expertise and services. This is how your purpose earns you money to lead a fulfilling life.

You Must Live a Life Of Value If You Value Death

One of the philosophies that would help us to stay grounded and instill a sense of urgency is our death which is inevitable for all of us. It could happen to us or to one of our dear ones at any moment which catches us off-guard. It could either change our life or could alter the lives of others in an instance.

Some people believe in reincarnation (rebirth) and some people believe that there is no life after death. Whether you believe either ways, the fact is that you would do justice to current life only when you lead of life of purpose and meaning here and now.

If you believe in rebirth, then you are expecting to be reborn to have an amazing life. Then you must also agree that the quality of life in next birth depends on what you do in current life.

If you do not believe in rebirth, then it is even more imperative to take this only life seriously and do your best now.

Either ways, it all comes down to the significance we wish to attain at the end of the life. Significance can be achieved by the value we add to others lives. Our life’s significance depends on the service and contribution we make to our community. Our value is dependent on the value we provide to others.

Believe in rebirth or not, you must not take the current life for granted, you must be grateful for what you have and who you are, you must do your best with what you have and where you are, you need to use your resources to make a difference in your life and others, you need to leave a mark before you die, you need to make a positive impact and be an inspiration to others, you need to inspire others to be better, you must love and be loved, you must live a life and feel alive, you must matter, you must be missed.

A Person’s Inner Character Can be Seen During the Testing Times

We can see the real character of a person when they are confronted with an adversity or unexpected negative event or some stressful situation. We can see the true colors of one’s character and courage when they are tested by life.

The way a person behaves and take decisions during tough times would make him either a leader or a follower. The attitude a person shows during troubling times makes them a person to rely on and depend on.

Anybody can do the things we are supposed to do when everything is alright, weather is all good with sun shine, when everyone in the family are behaving treating you well, when your personal relationships are going great, when you are being recognised for your work in your job, when there are no natural calamities and no civil disturbances, when your economy is thriving outside and inside. We can be happy, behave well, stand by our word, treat others well, behave well, take right decisions, help and support others, exercise, eat healthy, sleep on time when the environment around us is convenient and favourable.

Actually we need to push ourselves and force ourselves to do the right things and take right decisions during the times when circumstances are acting against us. Taking care of our physical and mental health is even more important during any kind of stressful situation in our life. Having discipline to adhere to basic things like exercising, eating healthy foods, taking vitamin supplements, trying to sleep, doing deep breathing would help us to pull us back to a state where we can act rationally to an extent.

We Grow From Failures and Rejections

Adversity, challenges, unexpected problems in life are very important including failures, rejections, embarrassments because those are the things that would inspire us to change and improve. By default we would like to stay still and avoid uncertainty and there is nothing bad in it. But the real growth and achievement lies in overcoming the obstacles and confronting our fears.

For us grow from our failures and setbacks, we need to learn to derive a meaning from negative events that happen to us. If we do not take time to make sense of the situation and learn from it to become better, then you would stay where you are.

Excellence is a Result of Our Habits

”We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit.”

Aristotle

Our life is a miniature version of our daily habits and rituals. We become who we are by repeatedly following certain patterns and doing certain activities regularly. Even the kind of repetitive thinking we indulge in has an impact on various decisions we take in our daily lives.

So in order to reach excellence and become a master in something, one must give extreme importance to repetitions, practice, trying again and again, learning from failures and trying it again without losing enthusiasm.

Not Everything That Can be Counted Counts

Not everything that can be counted counts and not all things that are countable can be counted.

What it means is that we need to keep first things first, important things important, we need to give our space only those things that matter.

Many times we get side tracked by doing things that are not actually important or urgent to us. We get distracted by so many meaningless things in our daily lives and fall prey to them. We give in to our temptations and submit to instant pleasures instead of choosing things that have a long lasting positive impact. Few examples are like scrolling social media, binge watching videos, trolling, video gaming etc,. We keep running through the day working on other’s programming and intelligent algorithms.

We resort to blaming and complaining the situations around us. We claim that we do not have time to meet our physical/mental needs and take self-care. What we need to understand is that we are not prioritising the tasks that are important to us and we simply balme the lack of time.

We lose sight of the primary objective squandering around doing those unimportant secondary and tertiary things. We stick to our familiar patterns which are kind of addictive as they give an instant kick. By doing this we get a false sense of busyness. We keep procrastinating by justifying our self-limiting beliefs and lame reasons. When we continue in this manner, first we lose few minutes, then few hours, then few days and then years. When we look back at ourselves after few years, we are where we are and stuck in life.

CHOOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS. PRIORITIZE THE IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES THAT MATTER TO YOU. WORK ON YOURSELF FIRST. PRIORITIZE YOUR WELLBEING, FITNESS, MENTAL HEALTH, PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS, YOUR PASSION.

Change Your Thinking to Change Your Life

If you can control a man’s thinking you do not have to worry about his action. When you determine what a man shall think you do not have to concern yourself about what he will do. If you make a man feel that he is inferior, you do not have to compel him to accept an inferior status, for he will seek it himself. If you make a man think that he is justly an outcast, you do not have to order him to the back door. He will go without being told; and if there is no back door, his very nature will demand one.

Carter Godwin Woodson, The Mis-Education of the Negro

Our mindset and our thoughts define our life. Of course it is very difficult to course correct our way of thinking without retrospecting our core beliefs and values which actually defined our identity. Our surface level thinking would be heavily impacted by our belief patterns. Then the thoughts we have in a given moment would impact the feeling we have internally. When we emote those internal feelings to the outside world, they become emotions. Our emotions show our behaviour. A behaviour when done repetitively would become our attitude towards our world we live in. Our attitude towards life would influence the kind of decisions we take and choices we make on a daily basis. Our decisions making ability would impact the kind of results we get in life.

Essentially when we combine and aggregate our small and big decisions over a period time, we can see our life in miniature.

Hence, pay close attention to your thoughts. How can we improve our thinking for our benefit. Choose to do things and activities that improve your thinking. As simple as that. Our mindset does not change for better automatically without our conscious effort.

For improving our thinking to work in our favour and in our best interests, you can read books, watch or listen to experts, reach out to an expert, you can do certain deep breathing techniques, do meditation, do workouts or yoga, of course eat healthy foods and focus on certain nutrients that positively our brain function, choose to actively relax, sleep well.

Apart from all the above the most important of all is to be really be careful about what kind of information are you taking in through all your senses.
Choose to watch or listen or read content that is positive, that motivates you, that tests you and helps you elevate your mindset to a higher level. Access only that information that makes you hopeful of a better you and better tomorrow. When you have hope, you would get faith to think and do things that enhances your life.

Remember that you are who you talk to, you are the books you read, you are the content you watch and listen to, you are who you follow or subscribe to, you are are an average of your friends circle, you are your beliefs and values. Our exposure to various things in our environment including everything like food, water, air, people will have an impact on our thinking and our perception. So working to improve various factors of our immediate environment will improve our state of mind and thought process.

Be the CEO or PM of Your Family

Many of us at some point in our careers would have led a group of people to attain a common goal. At a larger level a Prime minister leads the country or CEO leads a company towards a particular direction in the interest of the people.

Some of the main responsibilities of a CEO are to look after the health and growth of the company, ensure financial stability, ensure employees are happy, identify the gaps and fix them on time, be a role model, have integrity, drive the company towards a better future, instill confidence in employees and shareholders and so on.

The point here is we must behave like a CEO in our family whether you are man or a woman. You need to be a role model and lead your next generation by example. You must work on yourself to be a strong leader in your family. Similar to a CEO you must take care of the health, wealth, bonding and happiness with in the family.

Leading by example is not the way but the ONLY way to inspire others to follow you. Walking the talk and talking the walk are essential strategies to instill trust in family. Instead of preaching our children it is lot more efficient to show them how to be health and prosperous in life. People will respect a doers and most probably follow them.

Be an Entrepreneur in Your Own Life

Entrepreneurship is nothing but believing and putting faith on investing the resources that you do not have at present for a bright future. Similarly you have to be entrepreneur in your health and well being.

We must have the faith that the effort, the time, the money, the energy that you are investing now in yourself is going to pay dividends in the long term or even in the short term.

For any entrepreneur, it is an uphill task initially as they need to work on a model, a crude idea, a concept with minimum resources or none. Still they go ahead having faith that they would become successful someday, if they are disciplined and consistent with their efforts. They proceed with one small step at a time, one brick at a time and build a product or a software that finally would be a success in market. They rely on delayed gratification and patiently wait for the product to mature and be accepted in the marketplace.

We need to employ similar strategy of giving everything, being disciplined, committing to the cause, planning and preparing, having integrity and leading by example when it comes to our health, fitness, wellbeing, our relationships, our job or passion. It might be a slow and tedious process but it is worth it.

Success may not be guaranteed but struggle is guaranteed. The struggle you encounter in the process of reaching your final destination develops you into a better person.

Transforming Ourselves is Like Sculpting Ourselves

When we are in the process of transforming ourselves to become a better person, while we are inculcating healthy habits and bypassing our patterns that long are serving us, it is normal to feel abnormal and stressful. When we are doing something that is unfamiliar to us and pushing ourselves to break the old habits, behaviours and patterns, it causes an internal resistance that could sometimes be very straining. His may happen because it is like killing some of our personality traits that are no longer good for us.

Why does this happen?
Even though we consciously know that we are doing it for our own good, our subconscious brain does not give its consent until it becomes a new normal to us. Our brain has an incredible immunity against any kind of change in life, our brain does not like uncertainty and risk, our brain want to conserve energy, it seeks instant pleasures over delayed gratification, it wants to avoid pain, it does not want to fail or rejected, it wants everyone to adore and put you in high pedestal, it want everyone to show empathy towards you.

While going through any transformation our subconscious brain makes us feel miserable and gives us many reasons to feel that it is not worth the effort and time. Our subconscious patterns and habits are like immovable object, hence we need we need to be unstoppable force to hit those hard patterns to break and form new patterns. For most of us it takes everything in us to achieve what we want in life. It requires discipline, commitment, consistency, persistence, perseverance to transform into a improved version of ourselves.

Toil the Small Stuff in Order to Handle Great Stuff later in Life

You cannot expect to do great when something good happens in life unless you handle small challenges efficiently. It would be difficult to handle success and power when you somehow bypassed the journey of becoming great. When someone misses to experience the process of achievement, it is hard to maintain and handle the privileges of a better life.

Typically the journey or the process one could go through would be riddled with challenges, unexpected events, road blocks, rejections, failures, criticism, being misunderstood, missed parties and celebrations, harsh words from loved ones, denial, embarrassments, trial and errors, sleepless nights, doing hard work alone, being your own cheerleader, strange looks from others, being told you are not good enough etc,.

Once you reach your goal, maintaining success is even more difficult. I believe that our daily rituals and those boring repetitive tasks we do daily would help us to get us through the fortunes of life without getting too casual. The hardships, challenges, trials and tribulations during the process of reaching the peak would keep us grounded and grateful to what we have and achieved. Hence going through the hard stuff and who you become during the process of becoming successful is more important than the destination itself.

As Les Brown said “There is a system to success. The system is something most people are afraid of which is consistent hard work. The system works when you work.”.

Faith is important when we take up any task that is larger than us. We need to keep taking small steps in the right direction brick by brick. For instance it is like driving a vehicle on a highway at night. Our vehicle headlights would light up the road only to a short distance. Our job is to drive our vehicle safely and efficiently until the road is visible. As we drive through the highway in this manner we most certainly would reach our destination.

Similarly our job is to constantly tend to our larger mission in life. We need to focus on the next step and achieve it with best of our abilities. When we complete a task then we move on to next one and be done with it. Never ignore the daily practices that keep you overall well-being in check and keeps you grounded as you progress in life.

People May Leave You at Different Phases of Life

Remember that some people are like how boosters are to a rocket. The moment rocket reaches certain altitude, the boosters get separated from the rocket and the rocket continues to fly to its orbit. Similarly, some people choose to get seperated from us as we move on in life. People choose to get away from you not because they are bad, but they no longer are in the same frequency that you are operating. They might sever ties with you as your progress might making them insecure. It is difficult to get along for long when different people have different ideologies, lifestyle, mindsets and aspirations in life. In those circumstances if a certain person leaves you, then let them go. It is best for you and them as well.

People may behave differently with you or talk rudely to you or mock you for what you are doing or do not support you or demotivate you or criticize you or drag you down or throw shit at you or devalue what you are doing or say things like you are no longer the person that you used to be or say things that make you feel guilty or make you feel that they are unhappy because of you or say things that hurt you. People can say and do lot of things that could negatively impact your emotional wellbeing.

Remember when these kind of instances occur in your life, you must muster the courage to believe in yourself and understand that this is happening because you are doing something unconventional and moving out of ordinary, you are doing something different and going against the masses. You are not saying and doing stuff that most of the people on this planet are doing. You look odd because you are rejecting the common thinking to be uncommon. Remember that you are doing something unique that common person who leads a mediocre life does not understand even after explaining.

Remember that you are moving on to a higher standard and you must prepare for bigger challenges. Remember that things are going to get a lot more uglier before getting better. as you progress and go against the common thinking of the crowd, the more resistance you can face.

It is inevitable that one must go through this process to appreciate the results when one achieves something in life. We must go and grow through this tough and challenging journey to value the fruits of our labour later in life.

Remember that you are the rocket who is supposed to reach greater heights. Like a rocket which has a purpose behind its launch, you have a purpose behind reaching higher standards in life. The propose should be to provide value be valuable to others.

Choosing to Avoid Discomfort Does Not Give You Happiness

Many people believe that they are having good time and happy by avoiding discomfort in life and by avoiding struggles that are beneficial for them. They think that avoiding discomfort keeps them comfortable which is false. We tend to ignore and avoid especially those voluntary sufferings that keeps us healthy like exercising, eating right, sleeping well, inculcating other healthy habits.

We choose to avoid uncomfortable situations in our life, in our job, in our relationships, when it comes to taking a stand for what we believe in. Most probably many of us would take the liberty to avoid any kind of discomfort or suffering because they have the control to do so. However, the paradox is that those are the exact things that we need to do to grow for our upliftment.

Many people live a life of instant gratifications, short term outlook, immediate results, indulge in pleasure seeking behaviour , avoiding pain and effort for our self-improvement.

Ofcourse one may find many ways to avoid discomfort at the moment and continue with this approach for a long time in life. But eventually this attitude would catch up and cause chronic low grade pain and discomfort in life. This low grade suffering could be in the form of chronic disease that causes lifelong discomfort, it could be in the form of you not getting the recognition in the job, it could be in the form of conflicts in relationships, it could be in the form of displeasure on what you are doing with your life.

The result of avoiding the healthy and good struggles in life would be like blunt trauma. Blunt pain can be clearly felt but we can still skimp through it. It cannot be directly mapped to our unhealthy lifestyle habits but the resultant slow yet numbing pain could be experienced in various aspects in one’s life. The ill-effects of not having discipline could be delayed and unrecognizable, but it can be dangerous like a tiny wound when not treated on time could spread the septic infection all over the body.

So seek voluntary suffering that is in your control with respect to your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Involve yourself and push yourself to test the limits of your potential regularly.

Sit in discomfort and pain instead of immediately jumping out of the situation using some distractions like social media, watching brainless videos or simply eating something out of boredom. Sit alone and spend some time with your own thoughts once in a while.

Spending time alone to evaluate ourselves is one of the most uncomfortable feelings, but we would become better if we are objective in our own assessment.

All hormetic activities that does not kill you would help you adopt and grow. Like exercise, calorie restriction on certain days, fasting, cold baths, hot baths, sauna, holotropic breathing techniques, meditation, yoga etc.,
