Intrinsic values do not need the motivation of punishment and reward but external values need reward and punishment for us to do them. For example if a boy is passionate and interested in playing video games he doesn’t care about whether he would win or lose the game. He is just motivated internally to play and play to win the game. Even if it doesn’t win he would still continue to play for the sake of it just because he loves playing games. But let it say that you have to go on a diet or program because of any reason other than you truthfully realizing that health and wellbeing is the top most priority for you, you would continue stay on track until every this is smooth. You would go off-track and stop it as soon as you face any disturbance or any negative life stress. You would only do it if everything and everyone cooperates and goes as per your plan.
