We underestimate and neglect the problems in future

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. – Chinese saying

Confucius, great Chinese Philosopher, wrote this beautiful sentence back in 550 BC: “We have two lives; the second begins when we realise we only have one.”

We underestimate the problems in future and overestimate the problems in the present. We underestimate the long term happiness and give importance to immediate rewards. Meaning we simply avoid beneficial pain and suffering in the present moment which reaps rewards years after. This is one of the reasons why we procrastinate. We believe that our future selves would deal with the problem more efficiently. We think that we may or may not get into that problem so why take any action now. we think that someone would take care of us. We think that something would be in place to handle the unexpected situation if it happens.

Postponing a problem would not prevent it from happening but only extends it . It may even compound and may become even bigger problem to deal with in future.

Think what happens in long term ,
if you do not eat healthy foods
if you do not exercise regularly
if you do not sleep properly
if you mismanage your emotions and stress
if you ignore your family time
if you spend more time watching news, sports, social media instead of working on yourself.
