Overcome Depression with Action and Purpose

For many people feeling depressed many be due to many reasons other than real biological misfiring or chemical imbalance in brain. Many people suffer depression due to their unhealthy lifestyle or hormonal imbalances or nutritional deficiencies or systemic inflammation or feeling hopeless on their future. These days many people even though they have all the resources like money , power etc., they develop learned helplessness, self-pity and victim mentality. When someone believes that they are a victim of circumstances (which they might be), then they feel that someone must take care of them or rescue them which may never happen. They also feel that something must happen in the world to help them which would not happen most probably.

The first step to reject the fact that you are depressed. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are depressed. You need to understand that you are in a depressed state of mind due to some reasons. You need to address those reasons.

The state of depression is a result of lack of momentum and movement. Any object will remain unexcited unless it is in the state of motion.

Apart from a healthy lifestyle have a mission and pursue something that keeps you busy. Remember that the work that you are doing must give you a sense of progress. You can do anything but you must see that you are becoming skillful in something day by day. Developing your skillsets and gaining mastery in something that you love give you immense joy and satisfaction. Once you are passionate enough to keep doing what you love, then it is time for turning your passion into work which creates value in others live. Look out how you passion could address the problems in others lives. Capitalize your expertise and passion to help others. This is one of the ways to pull ourselves out of depressed state of mind by engaging in action and purpose.

You gain courage and confidence by doing the things that you don’t want to do

You gain courage by taking action even when you are scared.
You gain confidence by taking an action even when you are doubtful.
Courage is not the absense of fear but the ability to overcome the fear.
Confidence is not the absence of self-doubt, but the ability to overcome self-doubt by stacking up small wins again and again.

The more competent you become in a topic, the more you gain confidence in that topic.
The more confidence you have, the more courage you will have to take chances to pursue what you love.
The more chances and risks you take, the more chances that you stumble upon better opportunities.
The more opportunities you have got, higher the rate of victories.
More victories may result in better life, respect and wellbeing.

People love generalizations

People love generalizations. That’s why twitter is so successful. You cannot elaborate and cover all the exceptions to be specific and real. Most of the statements are made in generic manner and most of the causal readers love reading stuff that makes sense in general and does not require additional thinking from their end.

Talking in generalizations and being generic is easy and safe. It does not require to use mental resources to either write generic stuff or to read it. Many people by default choose easy route and hence many people are casual receivers of information from media and online. We choose not to ask for specifics and go into details on any subject matter because we want to feel safe without questioning the authority. If we question the authority then it might lead to more questions and further distrust which makes us feel more out of control. So generally we love to feel that we are in control even though a lot is not in our control. So we compensate our lack of control with behaviours which gives us the feeling of autonomy for that moment.

Sense of agency and gratitude are required to have faith

Main and the most important human attributes required to have hope and faith is the sense of agency and having gratitude. Hope means to believe that you get positive outcome when no action is involved like being optimistic in general or have a positive attitude towards life. Faith is to believe that you get positive outcome in future by taking action now like exercising daily to be strong as we age or save money in pension deposit for later use.

So to have hope and faith in life, we need to be grateful for what we are and have in life and also to must have the ability to control what you can control now.

Courage is the cure

I’ll tell you why most people lack courage.

All of us walk through life with a lot of experiences. We do mistakes, fail, face shame and embarrassment, ridiculed, rejected, take wrong decisions and make bad choices, we get punished for our stupid mistakes, we ignore and neglect our values, we learn some unhealthy things from our parents and some from our friends and some from others, we get attracted to irrelevant things and lower our sense of worth, we tend to find ourselves pursuing meaningless and worthless things that lower our self-respect, we indulge in instant gratifications like eating, watching and listening to mindless stuff, browse, scroll through social media, smoke or drink, take drugs to numb ourselves, try to sek solace by watching , talking and reading the topics of religion, politics and sports, we control the uncontrollables, we compare, become consumers of stuff that is not needed .

Now imagine all these things are adding up to our memory as crap and it keeps growing. As the pile of crap grows, it stinks more and more. You have no other way to go but through it.

Now you’re walking through this crap and it’s getting deeper and deeper. it’s getting hard and it’s painful. It starts to get right up to your neck. A lot of people will stop right there in the middle of that pile of crap and they never make it out the other side right well. Most of the people normalize the unhealthy state they are in and crap they are stuck in. They will believe that they deserve to be the way they are and this is what life got has to offer them. They develop a sense of belonging in the crap and develop befriend like minded people who believe in the world of crap and who want to stay in the crappy life.

But very few people realize at some point in their life that they are wading through this pile of crap which is stinking and making their life miserable. They recognize that it is keep them stagnant and stopping them from realizing their true potential. It is debilitating and detrimental to not only to them but also to the ones that rely on them.

So try to pull themselves out of the crap slowly but steadily. As they are coming out of the crap, a lot of crap would be smeared on their body. It takes a long time to clean the crap. And some of the crap does not go.

Now while you are struggling to clean up and reviving yourself, everyone around them is looking at them is laughing and teasing that that they got crap on them. They look at the visible crap on them and say that they are nasty. You cleaning up from crap, you getting rid of crap that is not helping you, you smelling better than others who were your community before cannot be tolerated and you may be ridiculed and attacked for working hard to get out of the shitty situation.

Many people unable to handle their nay sayers and they’re ashamed and they go hide in the corner they never try anything again, they never try to put themselves in better environments. They feel they don’t deserve it, that they feel uncomfortable, that they feel insufficient, they submit to the pressures and taunts of the life.

is walk through the crap come out the other side

and when everybody’s looking at you and laughing at you

and thinking that you’re just a piece of crap you have to be able to look back at

those people right down the eye and when they say you got crap smeared all over you look down at yourself
and you have to say yeah I do but I’m gonna keep going
I’m gonna keep going and if you do that and you don’t allow the shame and the

regret and the the the the just the you know the heaviness of what you just

went through if you don’t allow that to stop you and you just keep going

all that crap that you’re covered in it starts to fall off of you right it starts to fall away and

eventually you’re good again but you cannot allow that to stop you and that is what stops

most people it’s regret it’s shame it’s the pile of crap they had to walk

through 10 years ago that they created and because of that they never do

anything with the rest of their freaking life man I hate that for people man because let

me tell you man there’s been so many times in my life I’ve made so many freaking mistakes

I’ve gotten covered in so much crap and everybody looked at me and said you are

a freaking turd and I said yeah I am a turd but guess what I’m Gonna Keep freaking going man

that pisses people off people attack me all the time you know what man nobody’s

gonna remember your mistakes unless you are successful in spite of

your mistakes unless you keep going while you’re covered in crap and when

you do that people look around at you and they say hold on just a minute man

he can’t do that he can’t be successful remember this remember all this crap

that he was covered in hold on look at the mistakes this guy’s made look they try to reel you back into that man

that’s what people want to do what they call it crabs in a bucket right they want to pull you back down into that

crap that you came out of it freaking pisses them off dude the stuff that I’ve done man

pisses people off so freaking bad and you know how it pisses off the most the

people who know all of my mistakes it makes them so mad cause I can look back

at him in the eye and say yeah man I’m just I’m gonna keep going

I love that I’m gonna keep going nobody’s gonna remember your mistakes unless you’re successful in spite of

your mistakes and you know why because most people make these big mistakes in life and they hide in the corner man and

nobody remembers you I don’t care what you did freaking 10 years ago man I don’t care what you did

yesterday you just gotta keep going that’s it that’s how you put yourself in

these environments to become who you want to be period there’s no secret
it’s painful it freaking hurts man and you’re gonna have people for the

rest of your life trying to remind the world about the mistakes you made that’s old

at the end because you are tempted to stop doing the things you’ve been doing all along because you’re just tired of

the monotony of them you have to keep doing it so many people fall victim to that too oh man yeah I

mean as you’re talking about this I’m just thinking about different times in my life where where I’ve fallen victim to it where you get

so close to the finish line and you let off you think you’re just you think that momentum that you

experienced up until the one yard line is just going to carry you across that finish line

but you can get Swept Away by a current so quickly and taken back another 99

yards to the beginning if you just become complacent and think

you’re passively gonna get there sometimes you might get away with it but sometimes it but more times than not

it’s going to cause a catastrophe and when it does it’s it blows up oh yeah yeah did I tell people all the time

especially in ultra running all or when we’re doing training events at 307 project it’s like

if we go out so so let’s say we go out and we want to do 100 miles like the first 98 miles

it’s it’s all just a process to get you to the last two miles

and that’s where you’re going to experience the most growth if you will keep doing the things that

you know need to be done like you experience the most growth in that last

mile um that’s just the way you have to endure this long process and and to get because

you’re you’re experiencing the most gross growth when you’re doing the things that need to be done

when you don’t want to be doing them that’s when you’re experiencing the most growth they

actually said this in my last Ultras uh Rocky Raccoon here in Texas it was

around mile marker 85 and I said this on camera I talked to the team everyone wants to experience

what mile 85 feels like everyone wants to know what 100 mile or feels like

but no one wants to go through this first 85 90 miles together they just want those last five to ten yeah and

across the finish line but to get to mile 80 85 90 95 you have to had changed out your socks

and maintained your foot care and ate your your fuel your nutrition stayed on top of hydration drank the water liketake care of Necessities to get your body to that point so you could fully Excel and get across the finish line but

what happens and I say to so many people you get the mile marker 80 85 90. people

are falling out people are dnfing they’re quitting because they decided I

didn’t need the fuel I didn’t need the water I didn’t need to change my socks I didn’t need the the electrolyte support

well you can’t get to the Finish Line If you don’t do the the basics the requirements that

help you and sustain you to get to that point nobody wants to endure the process man so we talked about earlier the number

one thing that I well one of the big things that stops people I’d say close to number one is shame probably the

number two is the fact that nobody wants to endure the process you’re exactly right they want to settle in

to some mundane life they want to settle into something that’s just

freaking easy form that’s just you know they they can just check the box

they don’t want to endure the process and in every thing in life that’s gonna

Trade-offs in life

that forces you to grow is going to require a long and arduous

process that’s in your your Fitness that’s in your faith that’s in your

journey as a husband as a father as a wife as a mother uh in every aspect of

your life you got to go through it man I think this is a good time to bring in trade-offs because you talked about this

in documentary we talked about this last night as well throughout that process there’s going to

be these decisions you have to make that are trade-offs like in the film you’re talking about there was this trade-off

do I do I stop running for a period of time in rest and through this rest I’ll

be a stronger Runner when I wake up or I keep pushing through hoping that my body just bounces back do I allow my legs to

have the ability to maybe come back alive there’s trade-offs in life dude do I

spend more time with my family and slow the growth of the business or do I maximize growth of business and

spend less time with my family these are decisions we have to make and there’s there’s pros and cons to all of

them what are these trade-offs for you like how what made you in this film during

this race talk about trade-offs I mean it became front and center it

became uh it just it became such a reality um and I love how you tie it back into

real life uh because in this race you know if you lay down for an hour and

you got some sleep you would wake up with a clear mind but your body would

get so dang stiff from just you get cold and stiff and you

would wake up and it was just almost it was horrific to get moving again I mean

it would take an hour and a half two hours for me to get to where I could start running again because my body got

so stiff um so it was something that was really highlighted

and you can’t you can’t avoid them I mean like you’re

you’re gonna you’re gonna have to make a decision to do one thing or the other and it’s not always going to be the

right decision and sometimes you’re you’re gonna look back on it and you’re gonna say

man I maybe I wish I would have done that a little different but ultimately

you know they’re going to be trade-offs like you said you just related it back

to life I think that when every one of us we like to think that we can find

this perfect balance in life it is not a reality it’s not a reality man like every one of

us we talked about this yesterday when we lay down to die which we’re all gonna die very

quicker than we probably think we are this time is flying by man but when that

moment comes for us every one of us we’re gonna look back on the trade-offs

that we made and we’re gonna be proud of some things that we were able to accomplish that we

were able to do and other things we’re gonna say

man I wish that would have looked a I wish that would have looked a little better right I wish I would have maybe put more

time into relationship than I put into business

um but that’s the reality for everyone

now does that mean you shouldn’t still work on trying to achieve

the best balance that you can possibly achieve no you should still work on that like

you should still be conscious of that you should still Implement things in your life that that that’s gonna make

things better right you should still consider priorities you should still do

all of that but we’re all created in a very unique way

and we all have the things that that we’re really good at and um and it’s there there’s going to

be a cost it’s like it’s such a cliche thing to say that

your biggest strengths will usually become your greatest weaknesses that’s

been the story of my life dude like my ability to stay so locked in and present

and focused and just drive hard I have to have other people in my life

that compensate for the repercussions of my ability to

do that like my ability to do these things and just stay so present

it causes repercussions in other areas and I have to bring people in to

compensate for that if we look at it in business like man when I have

when I have a group out to train with me like I am so if I can say I’m blessed

with one ability it’s the ability to forge a team because I’m so present with these people and I pour myself out

so like every ounce of myself I pour out into people when I’m with them

Start with ‘I don’t know’ and learn

What we know is limited and what we don’t know is unlimited. There is infinite scope for learning and gaining wisdom if you are humble enough to say ‘I don’t know’. Do not restrict by having a right view and belief about something. You must have a philosophy for yourself but you need to be conscious that you are a human and there is always a chance for you to change for better. You need to evolve and embrace new ideologies that work better for you in different phases of your life. Many times we need to completely dismantle our limiting beliefs that are stopping us from becoming who we want. It is better to say to ourselves that I know something and I have learnt a lot from my experiences of life and using the resources in my hands, but i also know that there is a lot to learn and there is a lot to learn from the unknown. Spending more time to learn to unlearn and refine our understanding on various things in life would enable us to be receptive of better life. It makes us more compassionate and empathetic . It gives us strength to remain calm when our beliefs and ideologies are questioned.

This thinking and belief of accepting the the vastness of unknown is particularly important as we age may be from 40 years of age. As we age our beliefs and patterns of thinking become more and more rigid. May be it is an adaptive behaviour of our brain to conserve more energy to keep us alive. Learning and being agile in our thinking require a lot of mental resources and strenuous, hence it is easier for our brain to push us into accepting things the way they are instead of questioning and learning to form new networks in brain. It makes us to fall into the same loops of behaviours and just follow the same patterns even though they are unhealthy and not working for us. So, we need to keep repeating that phrase ‘I don’t know and what I know is not everything’ and do what is in our best interests instead of confirming our bias towards something.

Some facts on fitness and muscle building

πŸ’ͺ The key to seeing progress in the gym is to ensure that the fundamental concept of progressive overload is consistently applied, regardless of the specific method or frequency of workouts.
πŸ‹β€β™‚ Adding muscle mass is not as difficult as believed and does not require excessive training. πŸ’ͺ Building muscle is possible without anabolic agents, but it requires dedication and consistency.
🧬 The body’s physiology is driven by the goal of adaptation and optimization, not by good or bad chemistry.
🧠 The optimal state for the human body is adaptation, and stress is a necessary factor for adaptation.
πŸ’ͺ The body prioritizes maintaining aerobic capacity (VO2 max) over muscle size and strength.
πŸ”¬ The body requires more energy to maintain muscle mass and neurological motor control compared to maintaining aerobic capacity.
πŸ”‘ The key to achieving fat loss or muscle growth is to be in a negative caloric balance and consume enough protein while either reducing calorie intake or increasing calorie expenditure.
🌬 Fat is lost primarily through exhalation as carbon dioxide when we breathe.
πŸ€” The process of converting glucose into fat is inefficient, and the body prefers to burn carbohydrates over fat for energy.
πŸ’ͺ Eating protein alone can contribute to muscle growth, but adding exercise and carbohydrates has an additive effect; the relationship between protein synthesis and muscle gain is not linear; muscle mass gained from excessive calorie intake is not as strong as muscle gained through training; adding muscle mass through training has been associated with better brain health; there is an optimal caloric increase and protein intake for gaining lean muscle; the type of protein (animal vs. plant) matters more when protein intake is insufficient; for optimal muscle gain, aim for high protein intake, consider animal sources, and follow a training protocol with sufficient sets per muscle group per week.
Weightlifting is beneficial for brain health and injuries can be caused by dysfunction or compensation patterns.

How pharmaceutical drugs studies are conducted

Generally a medicine or a drug is studied against two groups of people. one group taking medicine and one that is not taking. even though it is randomised controlled study we need to remember that the drug efficiency is being tested and evaluated with a group of people who are doing nothing – means they are not following any will defined lifestyle practices like exercising or eating healthy food or taking care of there stress and sleeping patterns or taking some supplementation.

So now you are testing something (the power of drup) against nothing (sugar pill). General speaking when you are doing an intervention by using a chemical which blocks certain signals that are causing pain or trauma, then obviously it is going to work in some people. When you are comparing this group of people with a group of people who are doing nothing and taking a fake pill, then the results would be by asked towards the people taking the drug.

People boost you when you are in pursuit of something but may not when you reached your goal

People around you would support you when you are in the process of achieving something because they see themselves in you who is struggling, showing commitment and discipline, ambitious and goal oriented. But people would drag you down and try to attack you when you achieved something and reached higher standards than the people around because now you remind themselves of their failures, laziness and lack of commitment. You did something that others also can do but they did not due to some odd reasons. This creates a sense of shame and guilt around you.

People are just protecting themselves of the shame and guilt by demeaning you and rejecting your achievements. Generally people do it consciously or unconsciously in the name of your best interests because it is easier to diminish others hard work in stead of puttin gin hard work to become better one self.

Your invisible mind lens and frame of reference

Your frame of reference is the lens through which you view and understand the world. The world you see and react is highly polluted by this lens in your mind. For instance, Physical world is same to both of us, but the way you assimilate the information is completely different from next person. This lens is the interface between the outside world and our brain. All information we receive through our 5 senses will pass through this filter called lens. This lens is so powerful that it converts, modulates, and adjusts the reality to align with your mindset.

This lens is powered by your stories you tell yourself, various events that programmed your subconscious brain unto 7 to 8 years of age, your beliefs that were created without your awareness, some beliefs that you created through your experiences of life until now, what you value in life, your parenting, environment you grew up, various people and friends you met throughout your life, your genetics, your hormones, what you eat, how you feel in that moment and lot of other uncontrollable external factors and events in life.

And the most unfortunate thing is this lens is invisible and cannot be detected. Even if we identify our pitfalls that keeps us in deadlock, we can only improve to an extent by painfully peal layer by layer over a long period of time. But any small improvement in our mindset is worth the effort.

As Shakespeare said, “Nothing is good or bad in life, our thinking makes it so”.

Albert Einstein said, “The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.”

As Henry Ford said, β€œWhether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right,”

I ask below questions to identify those values that must be attended daily with consistency. Everything apart from my answers for below questions, is a noise that is coming from outside. I hear that noise and do what is necessary to reduce the noise but that won’t shake me.

First:
What will I do and must continue doing for myself whether I have everything life or lose everything in life?
What will I do and must continue doing for myself even if no one cares and appreciates?

Second:
What will I do and must continue doing for my family whether I have everything life or lose everything in life?
What will I do and must continue doing for myself even if they don’t care and appreciate?

Third:
What will I do and must continue doing for other people whether I have everything life or lose everything in life?
What will I do and must continue doing for other people even if they don’t care and appreciate?
